Since buying, I have had an issue with the phone freezing up when it has been in Standby for a while.... I have had my Razr M for about 2 months now. Since buying, I have had an issue with the phone freezing up when it has been in Standby for a while. Sometimes one of the email or text message lights will be flashing. But either way, when I press the power button to get the screen back on - nothing. I usually end up having to do the soft reset by pressing the Volume down button with the on/off switch.

It's a little frustrating, since the phone isn't feeling reliable (and having just ended 2 years of hell with a Droid Charge). I couldn't trust this phone to be an alarm clock - and I'm sure I've missed a phone call or two along the way.

Any thoughts on what's causing this? I've tried to reduce the background data coming thinking I could be draining the memory. Any advice would be handy. Everything went well. However when I play the music all of my ringtones, notifications and even my alarms also play....talk about irritating! I mentioned this to all my friends with smart phones and they do not have this problem. I called Verizon and they say the phone scans the whole phone and sd card and automatically plays all mp3's regardless of what folder they are in as music???? This just doesn't seem right! I had an old version... I own a Droid RAZR (model XT912) on Verizon Wireless in the US, and I recently tried manually upgrading to Jelly Bean (4.1.2). I had an old version of Android on my phone at the time (I rooted my phone about a year-and-a-half ago, and had not attempted a manual install since then). I followed the instructions for using the "DROID RAZR Utility XT912 Jellybean -- Windows + Mac + Linux (All In One!)" on the thread HERE and the page HERE. I ran the "LinuxMacUtility.sh" from Linux Mint 14 (invoking "sh LinuxMacUtility.sh" as suggested on one page gave an error about a parenthesis, so I simply invoked "./LinuxMacUtility.sh"). Initially I selected option 2 (upgrade and keep data), but after following the script's instructions, when the phone finally rebooted there were graphical problems on the lower part of the screen that made it unusable (I believe it may be the same problem described HERE). I also got a message saying something to the effect of "process.android.media has stopped" that kept popping up.

Thinking it may have been a problem with data left over from my previous install, I reinvoked the script again using option 1 (to wipe my data), with similar results (although the "process.android.media" message did not show up again). I also tried rooting the phone, which I believe executed successfully, but this did not solve the graphical problems either. After seeing the aforementioned thread with a similar problem to mine, I followed the instructions HERE and used rsd lite in Windows 7 to flash 4.1.2, but I did not enjoy the success of the author of that thread, and still have the same graphical issues as before. I also did a hard reset and wiped my phone to a factory reset, with no change in behavior.

Does anyone have a suggestions for how I might proceed?

I know it's been a while since I posted on here. I still check the site from time to time and read the what's new section to keep up with razr issues. One of the major problems I've had with the jellybean update has been my Razr Maxx not connecting to my home wifi since I added a Netgear repeater booster. I can easily connect to other Wi-Fi signals such as work Starbucks etc. I am running an old Linksys G router at home as the main unit which is upstairs and the repeater is downstairs. All of my other devices now have excellent signal reception but I could not get my RMaxx to connect to the repeater booster channel. I can connect to my main router upstairs but the single is weak as it has been always. I wanted to be able to connect to the repeater because the signal is much stronger downstairs. I used to push the recycle button on my phone and the wps refresh on my repeater and it would connect but only temporarily and would never reconnect again. I tried cache wipe, power offs, etc. without success. I really didn't want to do an FDR. My Wi-Fi search settings on the phone show the boosted channel (xxxx_2GEXT) as a choice however when I choose it continually states authenticating and never connects. After doing an internet search on the issue I think I found the solution. I found that the jellybean update does not support old routers. They have talked about an update patch fix but no date or expected time has been given. So I went into my Wi-Fi settings on my RMaxx and checked advanced settings for the main router. The default shows proxy None and IP as DHCP. I surmised that perhaps if I specified the IP address setting under the static choice and typed in the router address, maybe the phone would stay connected. I copied my main router IP address (the usual Linksys address) and the three numbers afterwords which probably specifies the channel. I then chose the repeater channel (xxxx_2GEXT) on the available wifi list, entered the password and chose advanced settings. Instead of IP DHCP, I chose STATIC and entered the main router's IP address and specific channel. IT IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED AND HAS STAYED CONNECTED FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS!!!! EXCELLENT CONNECTION TOO!!! I can walk out of the house and go to the store or wherever and then come back and it reconnects immediately! So in summary, I think what I've done is basically set tuned the channel on the repeater wifi signal by choosing static in advanced settings on the phone and it will connect when the phone is in proximity. I suppose the other solution would be to buy a new router as others have suggested. However I wasn't ready to throw out the old router and give up without a fight, lol!
I'm sorry if this is too wordy but hopefully it may help others who are having problems connecting their phones with their Wi-Fi at home.
