    Xfinity

Recently XFinity announced that they have downloadable material for subscribed members. I got pretty excited about this because I carry a HDMI cable with me when I travel with the hopes that I can watch a movie or tv show on the hotel television if desired.

I got even more excited when I saw that the 7th season of Dexter was available to watch using the Xfinity app.

Here's where this is going. I thought my wife and I could watch Dexter on our HDTV by hooking up the phone using my cable. This has worked in the past if I wanted to stream something using the phone, and the tv as a monitor. HOWEVER, when I plug in the cable to connect to the TV I get a message from the app saying I must remove the external connection to resume play.

Apparently XFinity doesn't want their customers to do what I was trying to do. It seems the material is only viewable on the phone or tablet.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution?

    Re: Xfinity

I haven't used Xfinity. So I can't help you there.

But I was watching movies on Crackle using my HDMI cable hooked up to my big screen TV. I haven't tried running it through the Bose surround sound yet but maybe I should?

I finally realized that all those full length movies are available to watch on YouTube and some are even better quality.

I'm going to have to look into Xfinity.

I think the Xfinity app blocks you from being able to use an external display (basically forcing you to watch on the mobile device). When I first plug it in the image on the phone goes to the TV but then I get the message on the phone and everything stops.

    Re: Xfinity

I would send the dev an email. Let them know they need to fix their app.

I'm guessing it's very intentional. I'm also guessing there is a way around this with root, to fool the phone/app into forgetting that it's connected.

I think it is intentional as well. Not sure what they gain by it but it likely has something to do with the licensed material. Currently Comcast (Xfinity) states that you can identify up to 3 devices per account to play this streamed material so for some reason they are preventing users from connecting to external monitors. I guess I will be watching from my tablet when I travel - not so bad.

Do you have a laptop? I know mine has an HDMI out, that might help get it onto the TV.

    Re: Xfinity

Not a bad thought but I tend not to lug my laptop any longer when I travel. I was hoping to be able to do this from my phone our tablet.
