offline speech to text. Is there an app for that?

I don't use a data plan on my phone, although I have access to one if necessary. So I generally only use the "phone" capabilities. I would like to be able to voice respond to texts in the car, but get a connection error if I am not on wifi. I've figured this out on my tablet, running jb 4.1, but the same settings do not seem to work on my stock virgin mobile razr v. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Eep! Just realized I put this in the razr m section. Could one of the mods move it please? My apologies.

You might try Vlingo, but I'm not sure if it uses data our not. It is specially designed for use in the car.

    Doesn't Jelly Bean do this?

Well, a couple of things, Vingo is no longer available so I can't test it out. Thought there might be a version of Dragon that might do it, but Na-uh. Jellybean does do it on my tablet, but the Razr V is 4. 0.4 and says it is up to date when I check for updates. I'm assuming that's as far as we Virgin Canadians have gotten.

Didn't know that about Vlingo. I've had it on my phone since my Droid X days. Sorry about that.

I also have no info on how Virgin is handling updates. Verizon is rolling out JB for us (they say) by the end of the month.

BTW Mimo - you and I have the same combo of phone and tablet. I have the TF300 as well. How do you like it?

I love my tablet! Unfortunately work keeps me from spending the kind of time with it I would like to. Eventually I would like to go as nearly paperless as possible. I have an Acer laptop but it is heavy to carry around. I'm just started using 7 notes with mazec to input text, making it feel more like the note taking my generation is comfortable with. I still haven't found a word processing app I love, but that's the thrill of the hunt. I've also outfitted my daughter with a Xoom, and my husband with a Blackberry playbook. The Xoom is a big hit. The jury is still out on the playbook.
When we travelled in Europe last summer the Asus was my gps, my navigator, my Skype contact, email, blog writer, reader, and tourist guide, even though it is wifi and I do not have a data plan.
I have no idea what I did without it!

I confirm JB has built-in speech recognition. My RAZR M came with ICS and I had to have data active for it to work, even if I wanted to dictate a text message. Once the M got the JB update, voilà, it did not need data anymore
