Hello. new Here. just got a RAZR off craigslist a few days ago. its been doing this crazy thing where if i turn data on and use it, it will get extremely hot and enter "Cool Down Mode" sometimes even shutting off completely. Ive tried getting a new SIM card and Ive tried using the LTE off/on app. Still the same. Then today things got worse. If i leave my phone plugged in everything is fine and I can use it like normal. But the second i unplug it (data, WiFi off) the temperature jumps way up to 150F and enters cool down mode. what on earth do i do?
Hello and welcome. I had the same issue only thing was i bought mine from vz i had three replacements until i finally got one that worked perfect. Well vzw suggested i try a factory data reset it did help me but the thing is the hotter your phone gets the more it literally kills the battery. So if i were you i would back up everything and do a factory data reset.
Ive actually factory reset the phone twice. But Ill try it again cuz I decided not to even bother customizing anything until it works properly.
The rep told me the same thing to fdr a few times and see if t helps but after you reset did you use or download any apps? Certain apps could cause it
Was there a return agreement reached between you and the seller?
We didnt make a return agreement. Probably should next time. Live and learn right?
and i factory reset the phone twice more today. still didnt help. i really think some sensors are messed up. because my battery will be at 90% then it overheats and suddenly it says the phone is dying. I turn it off and plug it in and the phone reads 90% again.
If the phone is overheating either there is short somewhere or one or more very processor-intensive apps are running, possibly forcing GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth all on at the same time. However, I would think that none of the stock apps would possibly do that.
In regular use my RAZR M heats up the most when I have GPS and screen on and I am charging the phone. It gets much warmer than in any other conditions, but never to the point of going into protection mode.
Try to install something like OS Monitor, disable from settings all the bloat-ware you never use and see what is using up the processor the most.
