[How To] Turn off 4G

If you live in an area with no 4G coverage this will come in handy. It will save you battery because it will not be searching for a 4G signal. Also useful if you do have 4G but don't want to use it to save data or battery.

• Click setting
• Wireless & Networks
• Mobile Networks
• Network Mode
• CDMA Only

UPDATE:

The above process was disabled with the ICS update. To toggle between 3G and 4G after the ICS update download this app....

LTE OnOFF - HTC Thunderbolt

After you open the app it will be the Phone Information menu.

• Scroll down until you see the pulldown menu for “LTE/CDMA/EvDo/etc.”
• Tap on that menu and choose “CDMA Auto (PRL).”
• Hit the back button to get out of these menus and to your home screen.
• Wait 20-30 seconds and watch your 4G LTE logo turn to 3G.

To get back to 4G use the same process and select “LTE/CDMA/EvDo/etc.”

Please note that if you reboot or shut down the setting will revert back to 4G so you will need to switch back to 3G only again after a reboot.

I heard you can get a 4g widget to turn off LTE to regular data by a widget. I don't have it cuz i never seem to find 4g anywhere yet.

there is a widget, i got it last night.
because of the programming limitations it is not possible at this time to directly toggle 4g, but the widget opens the settings page directly where you can change it.

open the "market" and search "4g toggle", expand the results and you will see one near the top for the "razr"
its the best we can do for now.

I for one would love it if there was a program that could automatically turn off lte when the screen is locked. It would help save tons of battery without sacrificing much functionality. Anybody know how to do this?

There were apps out there that toggled it but unfortunately the ICS update disables that from being used. Alternatively there is this over at droid forums. Use at your OWN RISK and follow the instructions exactly. I did as i live in a spotty 4g area and i run 3g all the time.
